(Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, CBT-I)를 PADO 방식으로 풀어 쓴 자료예요.

1. What this series is

This series walks through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), written the PADO way. The American College of Physicians recommends CBT-I as the first treatment for chronic insomnia, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine gives it a strong recommendation.

CBT-I doesn’t teach you to try harder at sleeping. It gradually changes your body’s rhythm, your relationship with your bed, and the way you think about sleep, so that sleep can come on its own.

2. Who it’s for

  • People who have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or wake too early several nights a week, for months
  • People whose mood, focus, or daily life is being shaken by sleep
  • People working on insomnia with a PADO therapist

This series is for adults (18 and older). Insomnia in teenagers is approached differently. If you’re 65 or older, we work out an individual plan with your therapist instead of following this series.

Each part also includes notes for people with ADHD or autism, and for people whose daily rhythm stretches across two countries.

3. Check with a clinician first if…

If any of these apply, please talk with a medical provider or your therapist before trying the methods in this series.

  • You’ve been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, or your mood has ever lifted or your thoughts sped up when you slept less
  • You have a history of seizures (epilepsy)
  • You snore heavily, have been told you stop breathing in your sleep, have uncomfortable legs that keep you from falling asleep, or have been told you walk or act unusually in your sleep
  • You often fall asleep during the day without meaning to, or you drive or operate machinery where drowsiness is dangerous
  • You’re at risk of falling, or you’ve recently had major surgery or a serious illness
  • You’re pregnant or work shifts
  • You’re cutting back on or stopping sleep medication, alcohol, or other medications. Stopping benzodiazepines or daily heavy drinking suddenly can be dangerous.
  • Your mood has dropped sharply recently, or you’re having thoughts of wanting to die

If something may need a medical evaluation, such as heavy snoring or pauses in breathing, we recommend checking with your primary care provider or a sleep specialist first.

Why are some parts locked? PADO locks only the steps that need a therapist to be done safely. Part 04, “Matching Your Time in Bed,” is one of the most effective steps in CBT-I, but daytime sleepiness can increase in the first few weeks, and some health conditions need to be checked first, so it needs individual screening and weekly adjustment. The action plan in Part 07 builds on the records you make together in session. You’ll get the password in session.

5. How to use it

PADO sessions are online. We’ll look at these pages together on screen during sessions, and between sessions you’ll keep a sleep diary (Part 02).

The work usually takes 6–8 weeks. The first week or two can feel harder before it feels easier. We’ll go over why, and what helps, in session with Part 04.

At the start and end of treatment, we’ll check progress with free, publicly available standardized questionnaires (the PROMIS sleep measures).

You don’t have to read everything at once. Start with the part you need now.

The harder you chase sleep, the further it runs.

So this series starts by making room for it to arrive.

This resource is for psychoeducation only and does not replace professional diagnosis or treatment. PADO does not provide crisis services. If you are in danger right now, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any time; interpretation, including Korean, is available by phone.
